Just a few minutes walk from Palazzo President, nestled in the heart of the ancient Peristyle, stands a mysterious beauty – a 3,000-year-old sphinx carved from black African granite.

She’s been here since the days of Emperor Diocletian, who was so enchanted by Egyptian culture that he had twelve sphinxes shipped straight from the Nile to his palace. These majestic creatures once guarded temples and tombs… and now, one of them watches over Split’s most iconic square.

No worries – we don’t have any sphinxes in front of our hotel (yet 😄). But at Palazzo President, you’ll still feel relaxed, protected, and royally treated – just like Diocletian intended.
